Perimenopause is a period of transition from normal hormonal activity, through menopause, to post-menopause. The perimenopausal period can last for up to 10-12 years, although the average duration is 4 years, with many women experiencing significant side-effects as a result of the hormonal fluctuations, including hot flushes, night sweats, and vaginal dryness.
